Our local community supporters
This project is about more than a communal garden. It has brought together local community groups that are all working together and helping each other to provide better amenities for our local residents. It brings people together and creates friendships.
We are delighted to be working with and getting assistance from the following groups:
We are happy to be partnering with the Sorrento Community Centre and they have agreed for us to work under their auspices and provide us with banking and insurance facilities. They are also guiding us through the process of applying for grants from local and federal governments.
We wish to thank the staff and Board of the Sorrento Community Centre for their support and assistance.
Point Nepean Mens Shed are another new local group based at the old Rescue Squad helicopter building in Sorrento. Their aim is "to advance the health and well-being of our members and to participate in meaningful projects and activities, at your own pace, in a relaxed environment and in the company of other like-minded people".
Their members have helped out on our working bees and moved soil & mulch and assisted in the construction of our raised garden beds.
We have formed a great working relationship and friendship with the Mens Shed and we appreciate their help.
The Rotary Club of Sorrento need no introduction as they are so well known and respected for their local community work and fundraising by a dedicated team of members. This year they assisted us with a fantastic grant which enabled us to complete the installation of water pipes from our new tank around the garden and connect up 4 new taps. Watering our gardens will be so much easier now.
Community 3942 are an independent group of residents of Blairgowrie with the aim of discussing and progressing any issues seen as important to protect, preserve or enhance Blairgowrie. One of their projects is to revitalise Stringer Reserve and get more people using facilities there. They were instrumental in getting the 2 good remaining tennis courts opened again with new nets. Great to see so many local residents playing tennis there now with their children. Community 3942 are great supporters of our project.
